Serengeti National Park

Serengeti National Park – Land of Endless Plains

The Serengeti National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most celebrated safari destinations in the world. Covering nearly 14,750 km², it is famous for its endless savannah plains, acacia-dotted landscapes, and extraordinary concentration of wildlife.

The Great Migration

The Serengeti is best known for the Great Migration, the largest animal migration on Earth. Every year, over 1.5 million wildebeest, accompanied by hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles, move across the park in search of fresh grazing lands. This epic journey involves dramatic river crossings, particularly at the Mara River, where crocodiles lie in wait—a breathtaking spectacle for visitors.

Wildlife Richness

Beyond the migration, Serengeti is home to an incredible variety of wildlife:

  • Big Cats – Lions, leopards, and cheetahs thrive here, making it one of the best places in Africa to see predators in action.
  • Elephants & Buffaloes – Large herds roam the savannahs.
  • Rhinos & Hippos – Found in protected areas and pools.
  • Over 500 Bird Species – From ostriches and secretary birds to colorful lilac-breasted rollers.

Landscapes & Regions

The Serengeti is divided into distinct areas, each with its own character:

  • Southern Serengeti – Calving grounds for wildebeest (December–March).
  • Central Serengeti (Seronera) – Wildlife-rich all year round, especially big cats.
  • Western Corridor – Famous for the Grumeti River crossings.
  • Northern Serengeti – Known for the Mara River crossings (July–October).
